This week I focused on developing three TikTok videos exploring the psychology of cool colors: green, blue, and purple, as part of my ongoing video series. Each video was a chance not only to share researched insights, but to test how various content strategies affected engagement on the platform.
Green: A Personal Favorite, But a Slow Start
I kicked off the week with green, my favorite color, and spent the most time crafting this video. I spent around 9 hours total for research, asset gathering, recording, and editing. It ended up being the longest video at 3 minutes, and ironically, the one that received the least traction.
- Posted: Thursday at 5:00 PM
- Engagement: 8 likes, 48 views, average watch time of 33.2s, and only 5% of viewers watched to the end
- Observations: I didn’t include background music or sound effects and realized afterward that the video may have been too information-heavy without enough hooks early on to retain attention.

Blue: Learning to Optimize
For my second video on blue, I experimented with music and sound effects, hoping to enhance engagement. This video was shorter (about 2 minutes) and more efficient to create, taking roughly 6 hours from start to finish.
- Posted: Saturday at 10:00 AM
- Engagement: 178 views, 15 likes, 1 save, average watch time of 16.5s
- Takeaway: Despite higher initial reach, viewers dropped off quickly. This highlighted the importance of capturing attention within the first 10 seconds; a key insight I’ll be applying to future videos.

Purple: A Surprise Hit
My most recent video focused on purple, and though I don’t yet have the full analytics, it has already shown promising signs of being my most successful video to date. I spent the least amount of time creating this video, at only about 4 hours.
- Posted: Sunday night/Monday morning at 1:00 AM
- Video Length: About 2.5 minutes
- Engagement (so far): 772 views, 53 likes, 1 comment, 9 saves, and 4 shares in under 24 hours
- Approach: I leaned into the psychological associations of purple, luxury and royalty, by pairing the visuals with elegant, thematic music.
I’m curious to learn more once I receive the detailed analytics. Was it the time of day, the music choice, the topic itself, or just a more effective hook? These are the types of questions I’ll continue to explore as I fine-tune my creative process.

Looking Ahead: Warm Colors & Shorter Videos
Next week, I’ll be shifting gears to focus on the warm colors: red, orange, and yellow. One major goal is to shorten my videos to see if that helps boost completion rates and viewer retention. I’ll also continue experimenting with music, sound effects, and posting times to maximize reach and engagement.
Each video is becoming an opportunity not just to educate others, but to better understand my own creative patterns, editing process, and what resonates most with my audience on TikTok.
