This week marked a huge milestone in my content creation journey as I officially launched my TikTok series on the psychology of color! My original plan was to post four videos this week to start building toward my goal of a 15-part series. However, once I started working on my first video, I quickly realized how much time and effort it would take to create the type of educational, visually engaging content I envisioned.
For my first video, I decided to create an introduction to the entire series. I covered a lot of foundational topics:
- What is color?
- How do we see color?
- What is color psychology?
- Where did color psychology come from?
- An overview of the color wheel
While I originally thought this video would be quick to produce, focusing on strong visuals made it much more time-intensive. I spent hours gathering assets, writing a script, recording a voiceover, and learning how to use CapCut, my editing software of choice, for the first time. I watched several beginner tutorials to understand what was possible. The Creator Academy’s article on CapCut special effects was also a helpful resource; it gave me ideas for transitions, effects, and text treatments that made my video feel more polished and dynamic. Overall, it paid off, but in the end, editing alone took me about six hours.
The finished video ended up being 3.5 minutes long, and after posting it to my brand-new TikTok account (@designwithcolor), I was thrilled with the results! By the end of the week, I gained 35 followers, 68 likes, 1,112 views, 27 saves, 5 shares, and 3 comments. One comment in particular made the whole experience worthwhile:
“This has to be the first educational video I’ve watched all the way through and completely comprehend in years. You have the perfect vocal tone and delivery.”
That feedback meant so much to me, especially since this was my first time creating educational content for TikTok. It validated all of the time I spent researching, gathering assets, and editing to make sure my video was both informative and engaging.

A big part of my prep this week came from studying TikTok’s Creator Academy, especially the article on creating captivating content through storytelling. It emphasizes the importance of having a clear beginning, middle, and end in every video, as well as creating a strong hook to grab attention in the first few seconds. I intentionally structured my script this way, which I think helped keep viewers engaged throughout a 3.5-minute educational video.
I also realized how helpful my earlier research on how to post effectively on TikTok was during this process. Things like using an engaging hook, adding captions, and including hashtags made a big difference in how my video performed, and I was able to put all those strategies into action for the first time.
Another big takeaway from this week was analyzing the TikTok analytics for my post. Most of my views came from the For You Page, and the top search query leading to my video was “color psychology.” Seeing this data has motivated me to keep building on what’s working. Moving forward, I plan to monitor trending and relevant hashtags closely, experiment with new ones to see which perform best, and incorporate clearer calls-to-action (CTAs) to encourage engagement. My goal is to use these insights to continuously grow my TikTok audience as the series develops.

Looking ahead, I’m really excited to dive deeper into the series. Next week, I plan to post multiple videos focusing on cool colors and how they subconsciously affect our emotions, and how designers use them in marketing, branding, and interior design. I’m also curious to see whether posting multiple times a week will make a noticeable difference in engagement and growth.
Even though this week’s video took a lot of time and effort, I genuinely enjoyed the entire process. It was both a challenge and an inspiration, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the series comes together.
